This month we're supporting the incredible work of Hill Valley Life Church in Malawi through prayer and financial giving. The church there provides homes, school support and discipleship to children who have no home or family. On Sunday we looked at Jesus’ famous teaching on the mount, from Matthew 5, and we discovered that this passage isn’t so much a standard we are to strive for but instead Jesus showing us that we could never live up to the law of God. Through this what we found was that we all need Jesus, the only one who can be for us all that we fail to be, the only one who has come from Heaven to make a way for us to live as children of God in the Kingdom of Heaven. You are the light that gives light to the world. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden. And people don’t hide a light under a bowl. They put the light on a lampstand. Then the light shines for all the people in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do. Live so that they will praise your Father in heaven.

On Sunday Matt shared with the adults from Matthew 2, where we discover some amazing truths about Jesus and that He is worthy of our worship. But Matthew 2 also forces us to ask how we will respond to Him, will we be a monarch (like Herod) and want the throne for ourselves? Or will be Magi, those who will commit our lives to the journey of the praise of Jesus!?

On Sunday, Matt took us to the book of Ephesians. Ephesians tells us that we were dead in our sins. It’s a reality that we’ve all felt, life without hope or peace, life filled with brokenness and pain. Yet Paul, the writer, also tells us that there is another reality, one with blessing, freedom, forgiveness, wholeness and joy. It’s a reality that’s only found in Jesus and Paul tells us that the amazing news is that it’s a reality that God predestined for us in Jesus - a way for all humanity to be made new.
