📖 On Sunday we looked at a really well-known verse, Jeremiah 29:11, and discovered that this verse has more context than maybe we realise. But as we see the context into which God spoke these words we find that this verse actually encourages us to trust the God who is faithful, the God who is love, the God who is peace even when times are hard and the world around us is challenging.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read Jeremiah 29:11-13! We were learning that God can shape us in ways we don’t expect – but it means that we become perfectly shaped to hold all the exciting plans that God has for us in now and in the future. We need to seek him with our whole heart, and he will guide us in good things. The children completed a stepping stone trail with challenges and questions in order to reach the treasure! We then spent some time thinking about where God has placed us now, and the things he is calling out in us for the future.

👉 Talking points: ask your child what they feel God’s plans are for them now, and what He may be shaping them for in their future. Pray for them, that they will seek God with their whole heart and let Him lead them.

If you’re part of our community, you may have passed the church building on Wells Road and might be wondering why on earth we would be selling our building! We’ve had a few questions about this recently, so here are some answers for you...

⛪️ Has the church closed down?
Absolutely not! As a church (the people, our family) we are meeting at Oasis Academy John Williams every Sunday morning - that’s just down the road. You’re welcome to join us any time!

⛪️ If you have a building why aren’t you using it?
We’ve been on a journey over the past few years with God where we have heard Him tell us to leave our building. You can find out more about this in our video from December 2023 (on YouTube or get in touch for a link) that fills in a little of the journey up until this point. In short, we want to do what we believe God is asking us to do, together, and in our community - so we’ve heard, prayed, discussed and voted and here we are! You’ll also know if you’ve visited us (especially during winter) that the building isn’t fit for purpose any more, and even when it’s full it can still be very cold. The area that we used for Children’s groups on a Sunday morning had absolutely no heating at the end of last year, which was one of the factors that helped us decide when to move out of the building.

⛪️ Who’s going to buy it?
We don’t know yet, but it isn’t a free-for-all. The members of the church will have some say over who purchases the building and the land (after a tender process) and we are trusting God to guide us to make wise decisions about that.

⛪️ What about the Foodbank?
The @sebfoodbank outlet will be moving into Christ Church Hengrove and there won’t be any interruptions to this important service ❤️

📖 God gave Jeremiah words about water, about the lack of water in the lives of the people of Judah at that time. On Sunday Matt shared about how water in the bible is symbolic of the Spirit of God, and how the Spirit helps us to cling to God and to shape our lives around Him discovering His goodness in our lives. But so often we look to other sources of water that ultimately do not provide. God calls us again and again to come to Him the Living Water. All we need to do is ask the Father who willing gives us His Spirit.

If we open our hearts and allow God in, we can trust him to shape us into something beautiful in his hands. The children used air-dry clay to shape their own creations. But first we asked Jesus - our potter, to show us something that reminds Him of something about us that we can make. The children then made what they felt Jesus had shown them, as a reminder that God knows everything about us - and we can trust Him to shape our lives.

👉 Talking points: ask your child what they made out of clay, and why they felt that Jesus led them to make that.

Share with your child a time when you felt God’s hand upon your life - shaping you and changing you. Pray together that you will continue to be open to God’s hand upon your lives today and into the future.

In contrast to this, we looked at God’s promise to raise up a righteous remnant of ordinary people that would ultimately bring forth His Kingdom. We rejoice again that we have a God who speaks life into our mess and cares enough to bring about redemption.

We talked about how it’s easy for our hearts to turn away from God - but that God is always calling us back, and He even sings over us.

The children played a relay game with some large hearts - they had to cross out the negative words and replace them with words that bring life, just as God does with us. We then asked God to reveal to us the song that he is singing over us - it was amazing that each child’s song was so different, because God knows us all so well.

Youth Church then joined us for a time of communion and worship - where we wrote our names inside a big heart, to symbolise us re-aligning our hearts with God’s.

📖 On Sunday we learned from the story of Hezekiah that there is a Babylon, an enemy, who wants to rob us of our treasure (our hope, peace and joy). But saw how that enemy works, and we discovered that there is a solution for us in Jesus if we would just run to Him.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read Habakkuk. We were learning that Habakkuk was frustrated with the world around him - it felt bad and chaotic. So Habakkuk questioned God’s plan, but then he positioned himself as if on a watchtower - waiting for God’s response. So God answered him, and revealed His plans to Habakkuk.

The older children read the verses from Habakkuk together. We felt that we should be more like Habakkuk - instead of getting frustrated about the world around us, we should talk to God - and expect him to speak to us. We spent time listening to God for ourselves - and God spoke into the children’s lives in amazing ways! The younger children built their own watchtowers out of paper cups! They also spent time talking about how we can listen to God more in our own lives.

We had a powerful time of ministry together, where the children laid hands on and prayed for each other - we also shared anything that we felt God was saying for our friends, and the Spirit really moved and spoke specifically into many children’s situations through each other.

👉 Talking points: Share with your child a time when you have waited on God - how did he answer you?
Ask your child what they are worried about in our world today - pray together and ask God to reveal some of his plans to you about that topic, and to bring you both peace.

Matt unpacked why Jesus came to be this guy that Isaiah talks about, and we saw that He came to be this guy because He loves us, and we need Him to be that guy, so that we can find life, hope, peace and joy again, which is His heart for us.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read Isaiah 55 v8-9. We were learning what the word ‘omniscience’ means! We discussed that it’s ok to have questions about lots of things - some of those we might never know the answer to. But we do know God - and God knows all things, so if we put our lives into God’s hands then we can trust that he will lead us into good things.

The older children read the verses in more detail, and we discussed what they mean for us and in our lives. We shared what it means to trust God with our questions. The younger children played a game of 20 questions! We talked about how God loves to hear our questions and our thoughts, and we created a space-themed picture with black card and chalk - as God is above the heavens, and we can trust him with the big and small things.

Isaiah brought a warning to the people - but he also brought them hope. He prophesied that a new hope, Jesus, was coming to save us all. This is still so important for us today - because of what Jesus has done, we always have hope and the promise that he is with us.

The older children read Isaiah 40:26-31 together and discussed what God was saying to them through the verses. We focused on the hope that we have, and that God lifts us up on wings like eagles.

The younger children talked about what hope means, and they decorated their own eagles with our memory verse on - as a reminder of the hope and promises of Jesus.

On Sunday, Dennis showed us the story of the enemy (Satan). We see in the bible that the enemy has been at work in our world through powers like Babylon and Tyre in Old Testament times, and still is today. But we also see that the God of the bible has something to say to powers who would seek to destroy his good creation and rob those He loves of peace, hope and joy. Ultimately that message is “your day has come” and we through Jesus can know victory over that enemy. Our children and young people enjoyed a silent disco Christmas party!

This Sunday (22nd) there is no morning gathering but we are very excited to get together for our Christmas Carol Service at 7pm! Everyone is welcome and we're looking forward to seeing you for carols and mince pies at Oasis Academy John Williams 🎄

On Sunday, Emmanuel encouraged us to seek the call of God on our lives and commit to living for Him, despite the cost and the opposition. When everything around us crumbles, we can stand firm on the truth of what Jesus, the Great High Priest, has done for us.

This week we got interrupted by a fire alarm and so Matt brought us a shorter talk, off the cuff, from a different passage than planned. But maybe this was God’s heart for us this week, to tell us that He is the one who takes dead things and brings them to life... if only we’d throw it all on Him ✝️

📖 On Sunday we met together at our new venue, Oasis Academy John Williams, for the first time! As we stepped out into the call of God to leave our building we looked at how it is possible to stand in the promise of God but live in the past. We saw how Israel and their kings physically stood in God’s promise but kept going back to live in the ways of the past, the ways of Egypt, the ways of slavery. And Matt challenged us not to go back, corporately but also in our personal lives, and instead to live fully in the promises of God for now.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read the story of how God provided for Elijah from 1 Kings 17. We were learning that God provided for Elijah in unexpected ways. We talked about the things God provides in our own lives - and that we are learning to trust God, even if he answers us in ways that surprise us sometimes! We thought about the journey we have been on as a church - and even being in a new place today is proof of God’s provision for us as a church family.

The children used paper plates to write/draw the things in their life that are asking God to provide for. We used the plates as a prayer point to ask God to provide for us, and to tell him that we trust His ways.

👉 Talking points: share a story with your child about a time that you have known God’s provision in your life.

Discuss with your child the provision that you are trusting God for in your family, and pray together about this.

📖 On Sunday we met together at our new venue, Oasis Academy John Williams, for the first time! As we stepped out into the call of God to leave our building we looked at how it is possible to stand in the promise of God but live in the past. We saw how Israel and their kings physically stood in God’s promise but kept going back to live in the ways of the past, the ways of Egypt, the ways of slavery. And Matt challenged us not to go back, corporately but also in our personal lives, and instead to live fully in the promises of God for now.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read the story of how God provided for Elijah from 1 Kings 17. We were learning that God provided for Elijah in unexpected ways. We talked about the things God provides in our own lives - and that we are learning to trust God, even if he answers us in ways that surprise us sometimes! We thought about the journey we have been on as a church - and even being in a new place today is proof of God’s provision for us as a church family.

The children used paper plates to write/draw the things in their life that are asking God to provide for. We used the plates as a prayer point to ask God to provide for us, and to tell him that we trust His ways.

👉 Talking points: share a story with your child about a time that you have known God’s provision in your life.

What a weekend! We had an absolutely incredible time together at @hebronhall last weekend 💚

Worshipped our way through the weekend at @hebronhall 💚

📖 On Sunday Matt shared with us from Ecclesiastes. We discovered that the author of Ecclesiastes makes references to the book of Genesis, and the garden of Eden in which man was created to live in peace with God. Ecclesiastes is the authors reflections on how the world he lives in is, like ours, not a hopeful or peaceful one, but one that is outside of Eden. Remembering Eden, however, reminds him that there is hope. That God’s heart is for us to live in peace with Him.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read Psalm 148. We were learning that the whole of creation was made to worship God, and to point us to him. We talked about how nature and creation is one way that we can connect to God - and how when we worship, we are joining with creation to declare the glory of God!

The children listened to some sounds from creation - we heard animals (including baby pandas!), sea creatures, rain, wind, the ocean and even the sound that ice makes when it moves! We also discovered that even the stars make sounds!! We read from the Psalm together which confirms all of this, and then we watched a video - asking God to speak to us through the wonder of his creation.

👉 Talking points: watch the video (in our Instagram highlight) with your child, and talk together about all the incredible aspects of creation that point us to worship God. You can also use Psalm 148 to read how this is all written in the bible too!

Help your child to learn our memory verse;
“Let them all praise the name of the Lord! His name is greater than all others; his glory is above earth and heaven.” Psalm 148:13 (GNT)

Don’t forget that we’re away next Sunday, so the memory verse will be for the following week!

📖 On Sunday we looked at a question that we, like Solomon, have all asked; “Will God really dwell with me?” and we saw from the surrounding and linked passaged in 1 Kings and 2 Chronicles, about the creation of the temple, that God’s answers is a resounding yes, that His heart was, has always been and still is to do everything to make a space in which people can know Him.

🚸 In Children's Church we read the story of Solomon rebuilding the temple in 1 Kings 6-8.

We were learning that the people used their gifts and talents to build the temple, and to honour God. Solomon dedicated the temple to God, and His presence came to rest upon it. We talked about how we don’t have a temple to visit now, but that through Jesus - WE are like a temple, and God’s Spirit dwells in us!

The older children spent time thinking about the gifts that God has given them, and about how we can use them to honour him. We took some time to dedicate our gifts and our lives back to God. the younger children especially enjoyed building their own little Lego temples! We enjoyed a time of communion with Youth Church this morning too.

Talking points: ask your child what gifts they feel that they have, and how they can use them to honour God.

📖 On Sunday Emmanuel encouraged us to remember that God is love - the very essence of love. Despite the trials we face, that His banner over us is love and He is pursuing us endlessly! Also, drawing a parallel from the Parable of the Ten Virgins, we are to be ready for the long anticipated coming of the Bridegroom.

🚸 In Children’s church we were learning what it means to trust in God. We tried to keep a ping-pong ball up in the air using a straw, but realised we couldn’t do it for long in our own strength! We then saw that a hairdryer can keep the ball in the air for ages. We thought that the hairdryer is like God, and that if we trust him with our lives - he will keep us on the right track.

We read Proverbs 3:5-6, and talked about what it means to trust God with our lives.

The younger children made a kite - trusting that just like the wind, God keeps us flying in the air - and on the right paths in our lives. The older children thought about the areas in their lives that they want to trust God more with.

👉 Talking points - think of a situation in your own life that you have had to trust God with, share this with your child.
