🚨 Tomorrow: 10.30am service, 11.30am BBQ ☀️

📖 Last Sunday, we walked through Luke 10 and discovered the encouragement of Jesus not to lose focus, not to lose hope, not to allow other things in life to crowd in and pull us off course or distract us from the things that really matter.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read: Luke 12:22-34. We were learning that Jesus tells us not to be anxious about anything. He invites us to live by Kingdom values, not to focus on the worries of the world around us.

The children competed in a relay race to sort some situations/phrases into Worldly Worries or Kingdom Values. We read the passage in the bible and talked about the difference between the two, and that we can trust God to lead us and guide us.

We spent some time connecting with Jesus, and pictured ourselves putting our worries into a box, locking it up and giving it to Jesus. We then asked Jesus what gift he wanted to give us this morning to replace our worries. The children had some amazing encounters with Jesus, and were excited about the gifts that he gave them.

👉 Talking points: ask your child what some of their worries are this week - read together what it says in the passage about worrying. Share a time that you have felt worried, and that Jesus has given you peace about it.

Remind your child about the time they spent with Jesus on Sunday, and ask if they would like to share with you the gift they felt that Jesus gave to them. Remind them that they can give their worries to Jesus at any time.

📖 On Sunday, Matt took us through the feeding of the 4000 from Mark 8. As we read we discovered that the author, Mark, is showing us more than a miraculous story, and more than a life lesson. The account in Mark 8 actually reveals to us something amazing about who Jesus is, and what He came to do.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read about Jesus feeding the 5000 in John 6:5-13. We were learning that a miracle is something that only God can do. He took one child’s packed lunch and fed a stadium-full of people with it! God can take whatever we have to offer and turn it into something great for him.

The children looked at things through a magnifying glass to demonstrate something small being made bigger! We talked about the things that we have in our lives that we can offer to Jesus; our talents, time, words, kindness, friendships, prayers etc. The children decorated paper fish and wrote a prayer on the back along the lines of; ‘Jesus, I give you what I have. It may seem small, but I trust you can use it for something great!’

👉 Talking points: share with your child a time when God has used you to do something that you know you could never have done without his help.

Before you eat your meal together, take time to stop and pray - give thanks to God for the ways that he has blessed you all, and commit again to offering your family to be used for his glory.

The children played games pretending to be the different types of soil, or threw bean bags (seeds) into boxes (the good soil). We talked about the things that hold us back from growing in our faith, and committed to putting into practice the things that help us to grow with Jesus.

We had a time of communion with Youth Church, and spent time praying for each other afterwards - which led to a great time of worship together too.

He sees those who feel unseen, ostracised, broken. In Mary God saw someone who would carry His most precious gift. In Joseph a man who said yes to God’s call even though all the pieces didn’t fit together in his head. Are we willing to surrender our rights, and our reputation to say yes to God. Jesus laid aside His reputation. Do we really want to be like Him?

🚸 In Children’s Church we read about the birth of John the Baptist in Luke 1. We were learning about how the angel visited Zechariah and gave him a message from God. Zechariah’s doubts made him mute, but God still kept His promises to them and John was born. A little baby with a big purpose!

The children discussed how it is normal to have doubts sometimes - but when we do question things we should always trust in the promises that God has given us. We thought that sometimes God’s ways seem strange to us - but when we look back, we can see that God is always working for our good. We spent some time listening to God, to see what message He had for each of us today - and we wrote these on angel cards that we can look back on.

👉 Talking points: share with your child a time when God has given you a message, just like he did with Zechariah. It may be a dream, a picture, an encouragement from a friend or a passage from scripture.

Take some time together to hear what message God wants to share with your family today. If you don’t know where to start, try reading some of the Psalms and ask God to highlight a specific passage to you.

In the week leading up to Easter Sunday we were reading the book of Esther, and what we discovered is that this book (which never mentions God) whispers the name of Jesus! It prophetically explains, through its specific context and moment in history, the victory over sin and death that Jesus would accomplish cosmically for all. 📖 On Sunday we journeyed through the book of Zechariah where the people, after their exile was over, were starting to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem in the hope that this would usher in the new Messianic reign and the kingdom of God. But we discovered that God’s vision for this was way bigger than they could imagine, and so too is His vision for our lives.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read Zechariah 6 & 9 and Matthew 21. We were learning that Zechariah was a prophet who God called to talk to the Israelites about coming back to His ways and rebuilding the temple. Zechariah asked all the people to make crowns for the priest as a symbol of a coming saviour who would be a priest and King. We then read the passage that talks about the King riding on a donkey - and saw that the same passage was mirrored in Matthew 21 for Palm Sunday.

The children made crowns as a symbol that Jesus is the promised King from the scriptures. The children wrote prayers of thanks to Jesus inside the crowns. We had a response time where we sat quietly and considered what Jesus has done for us in his death, and the children responded by placing the crown on their heads if they wanted to ask Jesus to be King of their lives today.

👉 Talking points: spend time talking with your child about Palm Sunday and what it means, as we enter the week leading up to Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Thank Jesus for his willingness to lay down his life for us, and encourage your child to bring any situations to God that they can ask Him to be King over today.

On Sunday we got together for a special Fifth Sunday gathering! We worshipped God, heard what he has to say to us, and had the absolute privilege of praying for Oasis Academy John Williams, our children and young people, our community, our city and each other 🥳

📖 On Sunday we saw how the stories of Ezekiel, Daniel and Jeremiah overlap and Matt unpacked how, in each of their stories, we see a God who is inviting us to be with Him... so that we might learn His way of life and be transformed by Him; receiving a new heart, a new Spirit and becoming more alive human beings like Jesus.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read the story of Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego in Daniel 3. We were learning that the three friends refused to bow down to the King’s golden statue, so they were thrown into a fiery furnace. But God protected them in the fire and they weren’t harmed - they didn’t even smell of smoke when they came out!

The children played parachute games, recreating the three friends going into the furnace under the parachute - but one of their friends (God) came in with them and brought them out safely. We also made pictures of ourselves in a tissue paper fire with God protecting us - and talked about the ‘fires’ in our lives that make us feel worried or sad. The story reminded us that God is with us in everything we go through.

📖 On Sunday Nigel Coles (Pastor at Counterslip in the 90’s, and @webnetcomms regional team leader) visited to share with us from God’s word. Nigel took us through the theme of judgement in Ezekiel 15-17 and showed us how it all led to, and revealed, God’s true heart to see us free and living life to the full (Ezekiel 18).

🚸 In Children’s Church we read Ezekiel 17. We were learning that God sometimes talks in riddles in the bible, and that he does this so we press in deeper to find him. We had fun trying to work out some riddles together! We then acted out the riddle of the two eagles & the vine from Ezekiel 17.

The younger children played a game where they had to find hidden objects in a giant sock! We talked about the ways that we can seek God in our everyday lives. The older children talked about how, just like the Israelites in the riddle, sometimes we find that God puts us somewhere out of our comfort zone so that we can grow. Lots of things around us try to pull us away from God’s plan for us - but if we walk toward Jesus then he always promises us life and growth.

· play a game of hide & seek with your child. Talk about how Jesus ALWAYS wants to be found by us - we only have to look for him.

👉 Talking points: share with your child a time that God has asked you to do something which may have felt strange at the time.

Spend time praying together, that God will show himself to you in new & exciting ways - and that you will be obedient when he asks you to step out for him.

We also shared communion with Youth Church, where we gave thanks to Jesus for what he has done for us - and each child shared one thing they are thankful to God for.

Absolutely not! As a church (the people, our family) we are meeting at Oasis Academy John Williams every Sunday morning - that’s just down the road. You’re welcome to join us any time!

⛪️ If you have a building why aren’t you using it?
We’ve been on a journey over the past few years with God where we have heard Him tell us to leave our building. You can find out more about this in our video from December 2023 (on YouTube or get in touch for a link) that fills in a little of the journey up until this point. In short, we want to do what we believe God is asking us to do, together, and in our community - so we’ve heard, prayed, discussed and voted and here we are! You’ll also know if you’ve visited us (especially during winter) that the building isn’t fit for purpose any more, and even when it’s full it can still be very cold. The area that we used for Children’s groups on a Sunday morning had absolutely no heating at the end of last year, which was one of the factors that helped us decide when to move out of the building.

📖 God gave Jeremiah words about water, about the lack of water in the lives of the people of Judah at that time. On Sunday Matt shared about how water in the bible is symbolic of the Spirit of God, and how the Spirit helps us to cling to God and to shape our lives around Him discovering His goodness in our lives. But so often we look to other sources of water that ultimately do not provide. God calls us again and again to come to Him the Living Water. All we need to do is ask the Father who willing gives us His Spirit.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read Jeremiah 18! We were learning that Jeremiah told the people that God shapes our lives, just like a potter shapes his clay. If we open our hearts and allow God in, we can trust him to shape us into something beautiful in his hands. The children used air-dry clay to shape their own creations. But first we asked Jesus - our potter, to show us something that reminds Him of something about us that we can make. The children then made what they felt Jesus had shown them, as a reminder that God knows everything about us - and we can trust Him to shape our lives.

👉 Talking points: ask your child what they made out of clay, and why they felt that Jesus led them to make that.

Share with your child a time when you felt God’s hand upon your life - shaping you and changing you. Pray together that you will continue to be open to God’s hand upon your lives today and into the future.

We spent time listening to God for ourselves - and God spoke into the children’s lives in amazing ways! The younger children built their own watchtowers out of paper cups! They also spent time talking about how we can listen to God more in our own lives.

We had a powerful time of ministry together, where the children laid hands on and prayed for each other - we also shared anything that we felt God was saying for our friends, and the Spirit really moved and spoke specifically into many children’s situations through each other.

On Sunday, Dennis showed us the story of the enemy (Satan). We see in the bible that the enemy has been at work in our world through powers like Babylon and Tyre in Old Testament times, and still is today. But we also see that the God of the bible has something to say to powers who would seek to destroy his good creation and rob those He loves of peace, hope and joy. Ultimately that message is “your day has come” and we through Jesus can know victory over that enemy. Our children and young people enjoyed a silent disco Christmas party!

On Sunday, Emmanuel encouraged us to seek the call of God on our lives and commit to living for Him, despite the cost and the opposition. When everything around us crumbles, we can stand firm on the truth of what Jesus, the Great High Priest, has done for us.

On Sunday, Emmanuel encouraged us to seek the call of God on our lives and commit to living for Him, despite the cost and the opposition. When everything around us crumbles, we can stand firm on the truth of what Jesus, the Great High Priest, has done for us.

This week we got interrupted by a fire alarm and so Matt brought us a shorter talk, off the cuff, from a different passage than planned. But maybe this was God’s heart for us this week, to tell us that He is the one who takes dead things and brings them to life... if only we’d throw it all on Him ✝️

📖 On Sunday we met together at our new venue, Oasis Academy John Williams, for the first time! As we stepped out into the call of God to leave our building we looked at how it is possible to stand in the promise of God but live in the past. We saw how Israel and their kings physically stood in God’s promise but kept going back to live in the ways of the past, the ways of Egypt, the ways of slavery. And Matt challenged us not to go back, corporately but also in our personal lives, and instead to live fully in the promises of God for now.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read the story of how God provided for Elijah from 1 Kings 17. We were learning that God provided for Elijah in unexpected ways. We talked about the things God provides in our own lives - and that we are learning to trust God, even if he answers us in ways that surprise us sometimes! We thought about the journey we have been on as a church - and even being in a new place today is proof of God’s provision for us as a church family.

The children used paper plates to write/draw the things in their life that are asking God to provide for. We used the plates as a prayer point to ask God to provide for us, and to tell him that we trust His ways.

👉 Talking points: share a story with your child about a time that you have known God’s provision in your life.

Discuss with your child the provision that you are trusting God for in your family, and pray together about this.

What a weekend! We had an absolutely incredible time together at @hebronhall last weekend 💚

Worshipped our way through the weekend at @hebronhall 💚

📖 On Sunday Matt shared with us from Ecclesiastes. We discovered that the author of Ecclesiastes makes references to the book of Genesis, and the garden of Eden in which man was created to live in peace with God. Ecclesiastes is the authors reflections on how the world he lives in is, like ours, not a hopeful or peaceful one, but one that is outside of Eden. Remembering Eden, however, reminds him that there is hope. That God’s heart is for us to live in peace with Him.

🚸 In Children’s Church we read Psalm 148. We were learning that the whole of creation was made to worship God, and to point us to him. We talked about how nature and creation is one way that we can connect to God - and how when we worship, we are joining with creation to declare the glory of God!

The children listened to some sounds from creation - we heard animals (including baby pandas!), sea creatures, rain, wind, the ocean and even the sound that ice makes when it moves! We also discovered that even the stars make sounds!! We read from the Psalm together which confirms all of this, and then we watched a video - asking God to speak to us through the wonder of his creation.

👉 Talking points: watch the video (in our Instagram highlight) with your child, and talk together about all the incredible aspects of creation that point us to worship God. You can also use Psalm 148 to read how this is all written in the bible too!

We talked about how we don’t have a temple to visit now, but that through Jesus - WE are like a temple, and God’s Spirit dwells in us!

The older children spent time thinking about the gifts that God has given them, and about how we can use them to honour him. We took some time to dedicate our gifts and our lives back to God. the younger children especially enjoyed building their own little Lego temples! We enjoyed a time of communion with Youth Church this morning too.

Also, drawing a parallel from the Parable of the Ten Virgins, we are to be ready for the long anticipated coming of the Bridegroom.

🚸 In Children’s church we were learning what it means to trust in God. We tried to keep a ping-pong ball up in the air using a straw, but realised we couldn’t do it for long in our own strength! We then saw that a hairdryer can keep the ball in the air for ages. We thought that the hairdryer is like God, and that if we trust him with our lives - he will keep us on the right track.

We read Proverbs 3:5-6, and talked about what it means to trust God with our lives.

The younger children made a kite - trusting that just like the wind, God keeps us flying in the air - and on the right paths in our lives. The older children thought about the areas in their lives that they want to trust God more with.

👉 Talking points - think of a situation in your own life that you have had to trust God with, share this with your child.

📖 On Sunday we learned from the wisdom of Solomon about how to deal with the attacks of the enemy in our lives so that we might walk more fully in the life that Jesus offers. You can catch up with this or any of our other talks by searching “Counterslip” wherever you get your podcasts.

🚸 In Children’s Church we were looking at the story of King Solomon, and how he asked God for wisdom.

We talked about what wisdom actually is – it isn’t just knowledge, but also the ability to take the things that you know and make wise choices. We did an experiment with a vase – there was a picture of an arrow behind it and when we added wisdom (water) to the vase, the arrow pointed in the other direction – towards good choices instead of bad.

We read the story in 2 Chronicles chapter 1 together, and saw that God honoured Solomon because he asked for wisdom instead of selfish things. We discovered that we should ask God for things that are pleasing to him, and which line up with His plans for us – and not just our own plans.

The children made treasure chests and wrote inside them the good things they wanted to ask God for, that were in line with God’s good plans for our lives.

👉 Talking points – ask your child what things they wrote inside their treasure chest. Share with your child some things that you would include in your own treasure chest from God.

Encourage your child to learn this week’s memory verse – “How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver.” Proverbs 16:16
